Hey there! What’s your name and what is your job title a Kulture Vulture?
Timothy Steere. Owner.
Tell us more about you! When did you open and what’s changed since then?
Opened in December of 2003. Whats changed? The sheer amount of merch I carry now, almost defies logic!I think the number one thing you learn doing this, is how to price things, to be competitive, both with other local stores, and with the internet. One thing ‘shoppers’ fail to realize when comparing a local shop, to shopping online, is the shipping. I always say I’m either a $1 more/less than what they can get online (when shipping is added in)
What did you do before Kulture Vulture?
Before this, I lived in Michigan, and owner several coffeehouses, before that (and after college) I worked around the country as a DJ at ‘Top 40’/Hit radio stations.
What’s the best part about your job?
The best part? Interacting with cool, musically-knowledgable people, from all around the globe. Being in New Orleans, you get many different people in, from all over.
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Almost always toast/bagel/etc, with either hummus or lite cream cheese with some fresh tomato on top.
What is the most important appliance in your home?
Do you have any irrational fears?
Fear of failure, even after 10 years of doing this. But, it keeps me motivated, moving, on my toes!
Do you like Sci-Fi movies? Yes
If yes-What’s your favorite? How about ‘Contact’
Have you ever ridden a camel?
No, but, am willing to learn!
What are you most excited about in the coming months? (Feel free to answer for yourself or for Kulture Vulture)
Always looking forward to travel. I am in-store a LOT, so, I like to take 4-6 vacations/trips a year, Ive already taken 3, with 3 more scheduled for ’14. Most of these involve hitting shows/gigs in various cities. Getting through the summer months in Nola (esp. July/Aug & Sept) is VERY daunting, but, it’s just another challenge!
